The Endeavor area contains the Fox River unit of the Horicon National Wildlife Refuge surrounded by upland grasses that support more than 223 species of birds and other diverse wildlife. Located just miles from the historic Fountain Lake Farm-founded over 140 years ago by John Muir, his father and brother. The area hosts visitors, sportsmen, hikers and others. All visitors can feel the beauty of the outdoors. Endeavor has an annual Broiler/Vegetable Festival on mid-July where you can enjoy Barbequed chicken, veggies, potatoes and more. The Endeavor marsh is also a great place to spot Sandhill Cranes. At last count there were an estimated 1,000 Sandhill cranes that are permenent residents in the county. Two nesting pair were interduced back in the early 1900's. This year nearly 35,000 additional cranes will pass through the area. Sandhill Cranes can not be hunted but pheasant hunting has long been a Wisconsin tradition. The ring-necked pheasant was introduced as a game bird to Wisconsin as early as the late 1800’s. Endeavor boast one of Wisconsin’s many pheasant hunting preserves. If you are a winter enthusiast, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing are popular winter sports in the Endeavor area, what a great way to enjoy the gently rolling hills, frozen lakes and marshes.
